La champaña celebra ventas récord

By Duncan Mil

January 19, 2023 - Las ventas de champaña se dispararon el año pasado a €6.000m y estánmuy por arriba de los niveles prepandemia. Las exportaciones continuaron en aumento, representando 57,5% de las ventas, frente a 42% en 2010

Comité Champagne said the increase in revenue -- up from €5.5 billion in 2021 -- was thanks to the waning Covid pandemic and having moved further up-market with pricier vintage Champagnes.

“It naturally accompanied consumers throughout the world as they rejoiced at the end of lockdowns and found the taste again for celebrating, going out, travelling,” said David Chatillon, co-president of the Comité Champagne.

Sales had fallen to 245 million bottles in 2020 at the height of the pandemic lockdowns.

Exports continued to rise, climbing 4.3% by volume to 187.5 million bottles. The loss of exports to Russia had little impact as the market represented under two million bottles per year.

The United States and the UK are leading the way in procuring real champagne, with 34.1 and 29.9 million bottles imported, respectively, with a combined value of €1.3 billion.
