The U.S. alleges that Masud was a Libyan intelligence operative and played a key role in the bombing, which left 270 people dead. Scottish and U.S. officials announced on Sunday that Masud was in U.S. custody, according to the BBC.
The Lockerbie bombing remains the deadliest terrorist incident to have taken place on British soil. The dead were citizens of 21 different countries, including 190 Americans and 43 Britons, the BBC said.
