Rusia se retirará de la ciudad clave ucraniana de Jersón

November 10, 2022 - La decisión de Rusia de abandonar la ciudad estratégica de Jersón – únicacapital provincial que ha capturado durante su invasión – es una importantevictoria para Ucrania y un revés humillante para el presidente Putin.

Ukrainian and western officials have speculated for weeks that a Russian withdrawal from the town, strategic for its proximity to Crimea, was imminent, and were quick to urge caution regarding the implications of Moscow’s retreat while playing down any hopes that it could spark a rapid advance.

But analysts said that control of the city would expand Kyiv’s options for inflicting greater damage on Russia’s diminished invasion aims and its ability to hold the territory it still controls.

General Mark Milley, highest-ranking U.S. military officer, said Russia had amassed 20,000 to 30,000 troops in Kherson and a full retreat could take several weeks.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces have taken the town of Snihurivka on a key route on the approach to Kherson, as Russia said on Thursday it had begun its retreat from the southern city announced in Moscow a day earlier.

Ukraine’s army chief, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, said Kyiv could not yet confirm whether Russia was indeed pulling out of the city, but that Ukrainian troops had advanced seven kilometres in the past 24 hours and recaptured 12 settlements.
