Opiniones sobre el aborto en EUA

By Duncan Mil

May 4, 2022 - Con la Corte Suprema de EUA lista para anular el fallo trascendental Roe contra Wade, que legalizó el aborto, la mayoría de los estadounidenses creen que el tribunal debería mantener la decisión Roe de 1973.

Abortion is one of the most divisive issues in U.S. politics and has been for nearly a half-century. The Supreme Court is considering a Mississippi law that would ban abortion after 15 weeks, a restriction seemed forbidden by Roe.

The leak of a draft majority opinion, written by Justice Samuel Alito, striking down Roe v. Wade has caused intense political debate over the constitution and questions about America’s healthcare future.

“Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” Alito writes. “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”

In late April, an ABC/Washington Post poll of 1,004 Americans found that 54% would vote to uphold Roe v. Wade, whereas 28% would overturn it, and 18% have no opinion.

Vast majorities of Americans (82%) voted that it should be legal if a birth would endanger a woman’s physical health, when she is raped (79%), or when there is evidence of severe congenital disabilities (67%) but less (48%) think it is acceptable for a woman to get an abortion if she can’t afford to care for the baby.

Chief Justice John Roberts stated on Tuesday (April 3, 2022) after the leak to insist the draft was not the court’s final decision.
