May 9, Russia: Vladimir Putin wants a notable success in Ukraine to celebrate at the annual Victory Day parade in Red Square, which marks the Soviet Union’s victory over the Nazis in World War II.

May 9, Philippines: Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, looks set to revive the family’s political fortunes by winning the presidential election.

May 9, United States: A portrait of Marilyn Monroe by 1960s pop icon Andy Warhol is expected to sell for around $200 million, which would make it the most expensive 20th century painting ever sold at auction.

May 10-14, Italy: Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra will perform at the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin, minus one member who is fighting the Russians in his home country. Russia is barred from the contest.

May 20, South Korea: U.S. President Joe Biden is expected to meet incoming President Yoon Suk-yeol during a three-day visit to Seoul, en route to a summit of Quad nations in Japan.

May 21, Australia: A tight election race is predicted between Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s government and the opposition Labor Party, led by Anthony Albanese.

May 27, UK: ABBA Voyage, a vast digital reunion concert of the Swedish pop legends featuring
“Abba-tars” of the band, opens in London.

May 29, Colombia: Gustavo Petro, a former leftist guerilla who later became mayor of Bogotá, is the
frontrunner to win the presidential election, marking a notable political shift in the country.
