Menos de dos minutos para el fin del mundo

By Jordi Bou

January 20, 2022 - El Reloj del Apocalipsis, que indica qué tan cerca está el planeta de la aniquilación, marca 100 segundos para la medianoche por tercer año consecutivo – lo más cerca que jamás ha estado.

With war looming between Russia and Ukraine, ongoing climate disaster and the coronavirus pandemic, the panel decided to keep the minute hand at its most dangerous position since the concept began in 1947.

Each year, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, a nonprofit group that sets the clock, decides whether the events of the previous year pushed humanity closer to or farther from destruction.

The idea began in 1945, when scientists working on the Manhattan Project – developing the world’s first nuclear weapons – created the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists of Chicago (BAS) to warn humanity of the dangers of nuclear war. Two years later, BAS launched its Doomsday Clock.
