Alec Baldmin dice que no disparó el gatillo en el accidente fatal

By Ninian Carter

On October 21, 2021, the “Rust” film crew were rehearsing a shot inside a wooden church on Bonanza Creek Ranch in New Mexico – a popular western movie location seen in the likes of Jimmy Stewart’s 1955 “The Man from Laramie” and Paul Newman and Robert Redford’s 1969 “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”.

As the crew worked out positions for the scene, actor Alec Baldwin, playing a grizzled 1880s Kansas outlaw, inadvertently fired a live round from an Italian-made Pietta Long Colt revolver replica, hitting cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and director Joel Souza.

Hutchins was struck in the chest and died hours later in flight to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, while Souza was later released from hospital with a wound to his shoulder.

Lawyer Gloria Allred is representing script assistant Mamie Mitchell, who was standing beside Hutchins when she was hit, alleging the bullet “whizzed past” her client.

Concerns have been raised about assistant director Dave Halls, who’s role on set it was to check firearms and make sure they were “cold guns” (ie. not loaded with live ammunition), and the inexperience of 24-year-old armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed.

Seemingly, the low-budget production allowed live bullets to be present on set and loaded into a prop gun – breaking movie production regulations.
