Miles huyen de erupción volcánica en España

By Jordi Bou

September 20, 2021 - Cerca de 5.000 personas han sido evacuadas de poblaciones en la isla de La Palma mientras la lava del volcán Cumbre Vieja desciende por las laderas, devastando todo a su paso.

The volcano erupted on Sunday, shooting lava hundreds of metres into the air, engulfing houses and forests, and sending molten rock towards the Atlantic Ocean in La Palma, the most northwestern island in the Canaries archipelago.

No fatalities have been reported but the volcano was still active on Monday.

The last eruption on La Palma, 50 years ago, lasted just over three weeks. The last eruption on all the Canary Islands occurred underwater off the coast of El Hierro island in 2011, and lasted five months.
