October 3, 1941: The aerosol can was patented in the U.S. Pressurized by liquefied gas, its propellant quality enabled soldiers in WWII to zap malaria-carrying mosquitoes in the Pacific

October 4, 1976: The United States reinstated the death penalty, since when over 1,500 people have been executed, more than half in the three states of Texas, Oklahoma and Virginia

October 5, 2011: Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple, died at age 56. A pioneer of the personal computer, he also revolutionised the way we use all forms of mobile communication
