August 24, 2021 - September 5, 2021 - Los Juegos Paralímpicos de Verano 2020 se realizan en Tokio, Japón, del 24 de agosto al 5 de septembre de 2021. Desarrollados a partir de los Juegos Stoke Mandeville para atletas en sillas de ruedas, los primeros Paralímpicos de Verano, en 1960, tuvieron como sede Roma incluyendo 400 atletas de 23 naciones. Este año, más de 4.000 atletas participarán en los Paralímpicos de Tokio.

In 2016, at the Rio Paralympics, the China topped the medal table with 107 gold medals, 81 silver and 51 bronze for a total of 239 awards. Followed by Great Britain in second place (64 gold), and Ukraine third with 41 gold medals.

United States leads all-time medals table with haul of over 2,100 medals, winning 771 golds. China is gaining ground having finished with most medals at last four Paralympics, in Athens, Beijing, London and Rio. United States have not finished in first place since their home Games in Atlanta, 1996.
