La cifra de muertes supera 180 por inundaciones en Europa

July 19, 2021 - Cuando la cifra de muertes por las devastadoreas indundaciones en el occidente de Alemania supera 190, con decenas de desaparecidos y más alertas de inundaciones, las aseguradoras se preparan para una de las catástrofes naturales más costosas en décadas.

Efforts to find any more victims and clean up the mess left behind by the floods across a swath of western Germany, eastern Belgium and the Netherlands continued on Monday as floodwaters receded.

So far, 117 people have been confirmed dead in the worst-affected German region, Rhineland-Palatinate; 46 in the neighbouring state of North Rhine-Westphalia; and at least one in Bavaria, parts of which saw heavy rain and flooding over the weekend. At least 31 people died in Belgium.

The floods could be one of the most expensive natural catastrophes in Germany in the past 20 years. German insurance industry association GDV plans to give its first estimate of the damage next week, Reuters said.
