March 5, 1936: The Spitfire, Britain’s most strategically important single-seat fighter of WWII, was unveiled. It played a key role in winning the Battle of Britain in 1940

March 6, 1836: Mexican troops captured the mission fort at the Alamo, which was defended by a small force of Texans, including Davy Crockett, who were all killed in the battle
