SGC’s three pipelines – the South Caucasus Pipeline extension through Georgia, the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) through Turkey and the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) to Greece, Albania and Italy – will provide the first direct route for Azeri gas to markets in Europe.

The TAP pipeline forms the last section of the 3,500km-long SGC, a route the European Union has planned for two decades to import gas from the massive reserves of the Caspian Sea and provide an alternative to Russian supplies.

TAP is expected to be ready for operations by mid-November 2020, and will have an annual capacity of 10 billion cubic metres of gas – equivalent to the energy consumption of approximately seven million European households.
