Melbourne in the Australian state of Victoria is closing shops, factories and non-essential businesses as authorities fight a second wave of coronavirus.
The city, with a population of five million people, has introduced a six-week night curfew where people must stay at home from 8pm to 5am.
Around one million workers will have to stay at home, a move estimated to cost $9 billion, and cause thousands of job losses.
Authorities hope the harsh new restrictions will reduce transmission of the coronavirus.
More than half of Australia's total cases were recorded in the last month in Victoria.
