By Duncan Mil

The summer months usually see a surge in orders with the biannual air shows in Britain and France. This year the Farnborough International Airshow has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Aerospace giants Airbus and Boeing sold just one aircraft in June, as the pandemic’s economic impact on the aviation industry and the grounded 737 MAX scandal continue to affect order books. FedEx bought a solitary Boeing 767 cargo aircraft.

Boeing delivered just 20 commercial jets in the second quarter, the lowest for a quarter since 1977. Those deliveries included seven 787 Dreamliners and four 777 aircraft.

Boeing’s deliveries have suffered for many months in the aftermath of two 737 MAX disasters and the grounding of the global fleet. Shipments of 737 MAX aircraft have been on hold since March 2019.

European aerospace giant Airbus reported no new orders in June -- the second straight month without a sale.
