Christina Koch sienta récord en el espacio

By Jordi Bou

February 6, 2020 - Christina Koch ha establecido un nuevo récord de estancia continua más prolongada de una mujer en el espacio. Su misión de 328 días es solo 12 días más corta que la misión récord estadounidense de Scott Kelly.

The Russian Soyuz spacecraft carrying Koch parachuted down to the grasslands of Kazakhstan at around 09:12 GMT on Thrurday.

She spent 328 days on the International Space Station (ISS), surpassing the previous record held by fellow American Peggy Whitson.

The holder of the longest single spaceflight by any person remains the Russian Valeri Polyakov, who spent more than 437 days aboard the Soviet – and later Russian – space station Mir from Jan 8, 1994 to Mar 22, 1995.

Koch wrapped up the mission on her first flight into space, providing researchers the opportunity to observe the effects of long-duration spaceflight on a woman.

The study is important since NASA plans to return to the moon under the Artemis program and prepare for the human exploration of Mars.
