Costo creciente de la Familia Real Británica

By Duncan Mil

January 10, 2020 - Los contribuyentes británicos pagan una subvención soberana a la Casa Real para mantener las funciones oficiales de la monarca. A cambio, la Reina entrega los ingresos del Patrimonio de la Corona al gobierno.

In 2018-19, the Royal Family cost £67 million, an increase of £19.6 million (41%) compared to the previous year, mainly due to a rise in expenditure on property maintenance, including £14.1 million on the renovation of Buckingham Palace. The other big-ticket cost in 2018 was payroll costs of £23.2 million.

The Sovereign Grant Act 2011 came into effect from April 1, 2012, to provide support for the official duties of The Queen and maintain the Occupied Royal Palaces. The palaces include Buckingham Palace, St James’s Palace, Windsor Castle, Hampton Court Mews, Windsor Home Park and parts of Kensington Palace. Previously, funding came from the Civil List and the Grants-in-aid for Royal Palaces, Royal Travel and Communications and Information.

By coincidence, the very first news graphic this artist ever produced was to illustrate a story on the Civil List for the London-based Sunday Times in 1969. At the time Duncan Mil was a post-graduate student studying visual journalism under the late, great Peter Sullivan.
