The route starts in Jeddah and concludes 12 stages later in Qiddiyah, near the Saudi capital, Riyadh – a total distance of more than 7,800km, including 5,000km of special stages. About 75 percent of the rally will be over sand.
In April, race organisers signed a five-year deal with Saudi Arabia to host the event in the Kingdom. It was previously staged in South America for 11 years.
Before that, it took place in Africa for 29 years until 2007, when the deteriorating security situation forced the race to seek a new home.
