September 10, 2019 - La Organización Mundial de la Salud dice que cerca de 800.000 personas se suicidan cada año, más de la que mueren por guerras y homicidios.

Globally, one person takes their own life every 40 seconds – a death rate higher than war, the World Health Organisation says.

WHO is urging governments to improve suicide prevention plans, noting that the most common suicide methods are hanging, poisoning and shooting.

Suicide is the second biggest cause of death among people aged 15-29, after road accidents. For girls aged 15-19 it is the second biggest killer after pregnancy-related conditions, and for boys, suicide is third behind road accidents and violent altercations.

Overall, close to 800,000 people die by suicide every year – more than are killed by breast cancer, homicide or malaria.

Findings also show that nearly three times as many men as women die by suicide in wealthy countries, as opposed to low and middle income countries, where the rates are more equal.
