El descubridor del Titanic ahora va tras el rastro de Amelia Earhart

By Ninian Carter

August 15, 2019 - El oceanógrafo Robert Ballard, famoso por haber descubierto los naufragios del Titanic y el Bismarck, realiza una nueva búsqueda de la nave de la aviadora desaparecida Amelia Earhart en el Océano Pacífico.

The mysterious disappearance of Amelia Earhart has captured our imaginations ever since she, and her navigator Fred Noonan, vanished without trace in 1937, while attempting to make the first circumnavigational flight around the world.

A new expedition led by oceanographer Robert Ballard, famous for discovering the wrecks of the Titanic and Bismarck, is attempting to locate the remains of her plane, believed to be just off Nikumaroro, a tiny atoll in the Pacific Ocean.

Evidence to this, for which Ballard is basing his search, comes from 30 years of research by The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR). Included in their findings is the recent discovery of a 1937 photograph they believe shows the broken landing gear from Earhart’s plane, poking out from a shallow reef surrounding Nikumaroro.
