Citing preliminary U.S. Homeland Security numbers, Mexico’s foreign ministry said 100,037 migrants were apprehended at the border in June – down from 144,278 in May – a fall of 30 percent.

Mexico agreed on June 7 to reduce the number of migrants reaching the U.S. southern border within a period of 45 days, after President Donald Trump threatened to impose initial tariffs of five percent on all Mexican goods if the flow of people was not slowed, Reuters said

Southwest border apprehensions more than doubled in the first five months of 2019 compared with the same period in 2018, with 492,000 migrants taken into custody, up from 226,000 last year, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data.
