A drive-by shooting in Melbourne killed a security guard and wounded three others in one of the main entertainment precincts on Sunday.

Recently, attention has been drawn to Australasia’s gun ownership numbers following a mass shooting in New Zealand, in March, that killed 50 people.

Australia suffered one of its worst massacres in 1996 when Martin Bryant went on a shooting and stabbing rampage in Port Arthur, Tasmania – killing 35 people and wounding a further 23 individuals.

Following the incident, fundamental changes to Australian gun control laws were made.
