Netanyahu busca una coalición en Israel

By Duncan Mil

April 11, 2019 - El partido Likud de Benjamin Netanyahu lidera una facción de grupos de derecha, incluidos judíos ultraortodoxos y ultranacionalistas que lograron votos suficientes para formar una coalición en el Knesset.

The outcome affirmed Israel’s continued tilt to the right and further dimmed hopes of a negotiated solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It also will give Netanyahu a boost as he braces for the possibility of criminal charges in a series of corruption scandals involving claims of cosiness with tycoons, media manipulation and tales of champagne and cigars being traded for favours. Netanyahu has denied the allegations.

It now falls on President Reuven Rivlin, who will consult with party representatives next week before picking the candidate with the best chance of assembling a parliamentary majority.

Together with his current Jewish ultra-Orthodox and nationalist partners, Netanyahu seemed to have a clear path toward building a coalition government that has a majority in parliament.
