Desencadenado por el asesinato del archiduque Francisco Fernando de Austria-Hungría en Sarajevo en 1914, el conflicto iniciado en Europa se extendió para abarcar gran parte del globo hasta que finalmente las armas se silenciaron el 11 de noviembre de 1918
In 1914, European nations were linked by a series of diplomatic alliances:Germany, Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire form the Central Powers. Britain, France and Russia make up the Triple Entente or Allies.
Italy, seeking to gain Austrian territory, enters the war on the side of the Allies in May 1915.
Bulgaria, with territorial ambitions in Serbia, aligns with the Central Powers in October 1915.
