The three Americans, Kim Dong Chul, Kim Hak-song and Kim Sang Duk, also known as Tony Kim, have been detained in North Korea for months.
The U.S. State Department has said it can not confirm the validity of the reports on the prisoner move, which came from Choi Sung-ryong, a South Korean activist with contacts in the North.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is believed to have discussed the prisoners' release during a secret meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un over the Easter weekend in Pyongyang.
At the beginning of March the White House confirmed that President Trump would meet Chairman Kim in late May or early June.
