Egypt tourist submarine sinks in Red Sea

By Jordi Bou

March 27, 2025 - Six people, including two children, are reported to have died after a tourist submarine sank in the popular Red Sea resort of Hurghada. Nine others are said to be injured.

Around 40 passengers were on board the submarine, and all are believed to be Russian, according to Moscow's embassy in Egypt.

The cause of the sinking has not been confirmed.

The Sindbad has been running tourist trips from the Egyptian destination for several years, and is described as one of only 14 real recreational submarines in the world.

The coastal city of Hurghada is one of the largest resort destinations along the Red Sea coast.
