March 27, 2025 - U.S. President Trump has slapped 25% tariffs on imported automobiles, escalating a global trade war that’s already seen duties applied to steel, aluminium and goods from Mexico, Canada and China.

President Trump has unveiled sweeping 25% tariffs on imported vehicles to the United States, fuelling the fire of a growing global trade war and prompting threats of retaliation from disgruntled allies.

The latest salvo of levies on cars and light trucks comes into effect from April 3, 2025 – arriving on top of duties already introduced on steel, aluminium and goods from Mexico, Canada and China.
