Tournament prize money has exploded since disruptive launch of LIV Golf -- overall Augusta purse has doubled in decade, from $10m in 2015 to record $20m last year. 2024 champion Scottie Scheffler scooped $3.6m in prize money, this purse is expected to be unchanged for 2025 event.
Just three golfers -- Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Arnold Palmer -- have claimed four or more Masters titles. Iconic Green Jacket, tailored for each individual champion, remains at Augusta at all times and is reused for each subsequent victory. Horton Smith collected $1,500 prize money at first tournament, while U.S. players have dominated greens since.
Favourites for 2025 edition include Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, continuing his search for elusive fifth major title. World No.1 Scheffler enjoyed stellar 2024 season, equalling record for most titles (9) though his recovery from freak hand injury may affect title defence.
