U.S. LNG industry set for production boom
March 11, 2025 - In seven years, the U.S. has transformed itself into the world’s largest LNG supplier, with production capacity set to expand by 60% in the first half of Donald Trump’s presidency
By the end of the decade, almost 1 in every 3 tankers carrying the superchilled fuel will originate in the U.S., giving Trump his best chance to attain the energy dominance his campaign promised.
At the turn of the millennium, the U.S. was short of gas. It generated less than 15% of the country’s power, outflanked by nuclear and coal. Horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing – or fracking – which picked up in the early 2000s, changed all that, unlocking previously inaccessible oil and gas reserves. The U.S. more than doubled its natural gas production and it now fuels 41% of the country’s electricity, Bloomberg said.
