Europe looks to boost military spending to ensure Ukraine security
February 18, 2025 - European leaders are looking at ways to increase their defence spending amid concerns about an aggressive Russia and declining support from the United States.
European leaders meeting in Paris for emergency talks on Monday called for higher spending to ramp up the continent’s defence capabilities but remained split over the idea of deploying peacekeepers to Ukraine as part of a potential peace deal.
The leaders also agreed that concluding a Ukraine ceasefire without a comprehensive peace agreement would be risky and that they were ready to provide security guarantees to Ukraine “depending on the level of American support,” according to Reuters.
