Manchester City tops European January spending

Four of the most expensive players signed in January 2025 have joined Manchester City, with only Jhon Durán’s transfer from Aston Villa to Al-Nassr of the Saudi Pro League for €77 million topping the €75 million (€70m plus €5m in add-ons) paid for City’s Omar Marmoush. The total spent by City is expected to be more than €216m.
Premier League teams spent a combined €447.7m, twice that of the next highest league, Italy’s Serie A at €221m, and over 15 times more than the cash-strapped Spanish League.
