New Orleans attacker did not act alone, FBI believes

By Jordi Bou

January 2, 2025 - The suspect in the New Orleans attack that killed 15 people on New Year’s Day did not act alone, U.S. investigators believe.

The police probe is focused on whether the suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, a U.S. citizen from Texas who once served in Afghanistan, had help in planning the deadly attack.

The FBI said they believed the suspect had help in carrying out his attack, particularly in placing suspected explosive devices.

FBI officials said they are also investigating whether an explosion outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas is linked to the deadly car-ramming attack in New Orleans.

The driver of a Tesla Cybertruck was killed and seven other people were injured in Las Vegas after the vehicle – illed with fuel canisters and firework mortars – exploded.
