French court sentences Pelicot sexual abusers
December 20, 2024 - A court in France has handed down jail terms to 50 men and the ex-husband of Gisèle Pelicot, whom they systematically raped while she was drugged unconscious during a decade of multiple attacks.
Dubbed “Monsieur Tout-le-monde” (Mr Everyman), the 50 men on trial for one of the worst sex crimes in French history, that saw the mass raping of Gisèle Pelicot in a sordid 10 year campaign of attacks orchestrated by her then husband, have been sentenced to jail.
The men, from all walks of life and ranging in age from 27 to 74, mostly lived in the southeast of France near the village of Mazan.
On December 20, a French court found 47 of them guilty of rape (including her ex-husband Dominique Pelicot), two guilty of attempted rape and two guilty of sexual assault.
The judge sentenced them to a range of jail terms – from 20 years to three.
