Confirmation hearings for Trump's picks for his cabinet under way
January 20, 2025 - On Jan 20, Donald Trump is expected go inside the U.S. Capitol after he is inaugurated to sign the paperwork to formally nominate his picks for top Cabinet and administrative positions, launching the confirmation process.
During his first 2017-2021 White House term, Trump staffed his administration with officials and aides who frequently tried to blunt his most aggressive impulses. This time around, he is drawing on a pool of committed loyalists who share his confrontational approach to foreign affairs and his goal of weakening the influence of nonpartisan civil servants.

Nominees require a simple majority in the 100-seat Senate to be confirmed. Republicans hold 53 seats, but some of Trump's picks could struggle to be confirmed if a small number of Republicans oppose their nominations.
