Manchester United appoint Ruben Amorim
November 1, 2024 - Ruben Amorim has been named new head coach at Old Trafford -- replacing Erik ten Hag -- after agreeing a deal until June 2027. His first fixture is set to be against Ipswich Town, on November 24.
In 2024, Manchester United posted a loss of £69m for the financial year despite generating almost £700m of income, with 43% from sponsorship and merchandising. Cumulative operating losses since 2021 now stand at a burgeoning £205m.
United have splurged €660m on players since appointing Ten Hag -- with a net transfer fee spend of €475m, second only to Chelsea. Under performing players such as Brazilian midfielder Casemiro only serve to highlight the persistent correlation between struggles on and off the pitch at Old Trafford.
Amorim becomes the sixth permanent Man Utd coach since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.
