November 1, 2024 - November 30, 2024 - The U.S. election, the COP29 climate change conference, the G20 summit in Brazil and the APEC summit in Peru, crucial elections in Moldova and India, the auction of a rare, 300-carat diamond necklace, and the 150th anniversary of the birth of wartime prime minister Winston Churchill.

Nov 3, Moldova: Incumbent pro-EU president Maia Sandu faces a tough second round of presidential elections after failing to win outright in the first round amid alleged Russian interference.

Nov 5, U.S.: Americans head to the polls to elect Kamala Harris or Donald Trump as president and determine who controls Congress. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 34 out of 100 seats in the Senate will be contested.

Nov 11, Switzerland: A rare, 18th century, 300-carat diamond necklace is to be auctioned at Sotheby’s in Geneva with an estimate of up to $2.8 million. Worn at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation, it may also be linked to a French scandal involving Marie Antoinette.

Nov 11-22, Azerbaijan: The UN’s 29th climate change conference, COP29, will take place in Baku. It aims to focus on making finance available to developing countries for climate action.

Nov 13-15, Peru: Lima hosts the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit and a new Chinese-built mega port is set open in the town of Chancay, in a bid to become a major South America-Asian hub.

Nov 13, 20, India: The state of Maharashtra – home to the country’s financial capital Mumbai – and resource rich Jharkhand hold elections as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP party looks to strengthen its grip in India after a setback in national polls earlier this year.

Nov 18-19, Brazil: Leaders of the world’s largest economies meet in Rio de Janeiro. President Lula da Silva and U.S. President Joe Biden will visit the Amazon rainforest ahead of the G20 summit.

Nov 30, UK: Events mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of wartime prime minister Winston Churchill, who led the country to victory over Nazi Germany and was later voted the greatest Briton of all time.
