Harris leads African American swing state vote

By Ninian Carter

October 18, 2024 - Vice President Kamala Harris bests former President Donald Trump by 76 percentage points in a new poll of likely African American voters in battleground states.

A new poll conducted by Howard University’s Initiative on Public Opinion shows that Kamala Harris has a commanding lead over Donald Trump among likely African American voters in the swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Overall, results show that 84% of 981 people surveyed say they plan to vote for Harris, with only 8% saying they’d support Trump for president in November.

The new poll comes as Harris announces a plan to enhance economic opportunities for Black men, including forgivable business loans for entrepreneurs and creating more apprenticeship programmes.

As of October 17, 2024, ABC News-owned pollster FiveThirtyEight shows Harris leading Trump by 2.4 points in an average of national polls across the country.
