World’s first paper bottle and cap enters production
October 12, 2024 - Two sustainable packaging companies have partnered to manufacture at scale the world’s first fully recyclable paper bottle and screw cap – ideal for containing solids, vitamins and pills.
Denmark’s Paboco (an acronym of PAper BOttle COmpany) and Sweden’s Blue Ocean Closures have joined forces to create the world’s first ever fully recyclable paper bottle and fibre cap.
The new Paboco design features a paper screw thread neck and uses a very thin High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) barrier – so thin in fact, that the bottle can be recycled as paper packaging.
The Blue Ocean Closure’s lid is made from cellulose fibres pressed in a dry vacuum.
The combined bottle/lid is strong, food safe, sourced from sustainably managed forests and an ideal container for solids, vitamins and pills.
Including the cap, the package has a total weight of less than 16 grammes, with an HDPE barrier weighing under 2 grammes.
The bottle has entered full-scale production and is expected to reach consumers in early 2025.
Since 2021, Paboco has been testing its products in partnership with Absolut, Carlsberg, Coca-Cola, L’Oréal, and Procter & Gamble.
