Nearly one million civilians displaced in Lebanon, UN says
October 10, 2024 - More than 600,000 people of Lebanon’s 5.4 million have been displaced within the country and over 300,000 others have fled abroad since the war escalated last month, the UN says.
UN officials have warned that Lebanon is staring down a “catastrophic” humanitarian crisis as the number of internally displaced people has hit 600,000 and Israel presses its offensive against Hezbollah.
The UN’s humanitarian coordinator for Lebanon, Imran Riza, has said Lebanon is facing “one of the deadliest periods” in its recent history.
More than 2,100 people have been killed in Israeli attacks since Oct 2023 – most in the past two weeks – the Lebanese health ministry says.
