Eight Israeli soldiers killed in fighting with Hezbollah

By Jordi Bou

October 2, 2024 - Israeli forces and Hezbollah militants fight at close range in southern Lebanon, as the IDF reports the deaths of eight soldiers – the first inside Lebanon since the invasion began.

Hezbollah said its fighters were clashing with Israeli troops who had "infiltrated" a southern border village of Maroun al-Ras.

The group said earlier it had forced Israeli soldiers to withdraw after they attempted to enter the border village of Adaysseh further northeast.

The Israeli military said regular infantry and armoured units were joining its ground operations in Lebanon, a day after Israel was attacked by Iran in a strike that raised fears the oil-producing Middle East could be engulfed in a wider conflict.
