Biggest box office weekend takings, summer 2024
September 2, 2024 - The summer movie season is officially over, and “Deadpool & Wolverine” ruled the roost again throughout the U.S. Labor Day weekend, taking another $15 million dollars at the box office.
The summer movie season, which officially runs from the Memorial Day weekend (starting May 24) through to the Labor Day weekend (beginning August 30) has drawn to a close.
For the second weekend in a row, “Deadpool & Wolverine” shattered records to become the best-selling R-rated movie of all time, topping the charts alongside “Alien: Romulus”. “Twisters” also made a surprise re-entry into the top five weekend blockbusters after dropping out last week.
Overall, of the movies that stayed in the top five for three weekends or more, the biggest hits were “Deadpool & Wolverine”, “Inside Out 2” and “Despicable Me 4”.
