Top medal-winning nations at Summer Paralympics

August 28, 2024 - September 8, 2024 - Evolving from the Stoke Mandeville Games for wheelchair athletes, Rome hosted the first Summer Paralympics in 1960 -- featuring 400 athletes from 23 nations. This year, over 4,000 athletes are due to take part in the Paris Paralympics.

United States leads all-time medals table with haul of over 2,200 medals, winning 808 golds. China is gaining ground having finished with most medals at last five Paralympics, in Athens, Beijing, London, Rio and Tokyo. United States have not finished in first place since their home Games in Atlanta, 1996.
