More bodies recovered after Sicily yacht disaster
August 22, 2024 - Rescue teams are searching for one person still missing after one of the world’s largest sailing superyachts was struck by a violent storm and sank off the coast of Sicily on August 19.
The British-flagged Bayesian, a 56-metre-long superyacht, was carrying 22 people and anchored off the port of Porticello when it was hit by the fierce storm. Fifteen people escaped before it capsized.
The body of British tech magnate Mike Lynch, as well as the other five people who vanished when the boat went down, have now been retrieved from the wreck, a source close to the rescue operation said.
Lynch’s 18-year-old daughter Hannah is still unaccounted for.
