UK ELECTION 2024

UK’s Labour eyes “super-majority”

By Duncan Mil

June 13, 2024 - Britain is preparing for a General Election on July 4 after 14 years of Conservative rule. Pollsters Electoral Calculus predict a massive Labour majority of 294 seats.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer is on track to smash Tony Blair’s 1997 Labour record of 418 seats at the General Election.

Conservative Defence Secretary Grant Shapps voiced his concerns, stating, “you don’t want to have somebody receive a super-majority.” This potential outcome could have far-reaching implications for the country, a fact that is not lost on the political landscape.

“In this case, of course, the concern would be that if Keir Starmer were to go into No 10, and that power was in some way unchecked, it would be very bad news for people in this country.”

Shapps is one of several high-profile Tories set to lose their seats in the election, along with Chancellor Jeremy Hunt and Commons leader Penny Mordaunt, according to a YouGov poll for Sky News.

Starmer says his “central mission was to grow the economy,” and he wants to “do things differently.”
