Israel-Hamas war situation report day 133

By Phil Bainbridge

February 16, 2024 - Israeli Special Forces have raided Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis - the largest functioning hospital in Gaza - after receiving “credible intelligence” that the bodies of hostages taken on October 7 are there.

U.S. President has once again called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to protect Palestinian civilians as the IDF prepares for an assault on Rafah City, currently home to up to 1.5 million people including refugees from other parts of the territory.

Egypt is reportedly building a massive “walled enclosure” capable of holding up to 100,000 as a contingency in the event of a mass exodus from Rafah, and has deployed 40 tanks and fighting vehicles to the border. Cairo has denied the reports but has repeatedly warned that Israel’s devastating Gaza offensive could displace Palestinians into Sinai, echoing warnings from Jordan, as a repeat of the “nakba” of 1948 when 700,000 Palestinians fled their homes during the war following the creation of Israel.
