Israel-Hamas war situation report day 129

By Phil Bainbridge

February 12, 2024 - Two hostages have been freed in a joint operation between the IDF, Shin Bet and the Special Police Unit in Rafah under cover of air strikes in which dozens were reported killed.

The freed hostages were flown to the Sheba Medical Centre at Tel Hashomer near Ramat Gan where they were said to be in a stable condition.

Amid growing concern over an impending full-scale assault on the city and under U.S. pressure, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the IDF to draw up plans for an evacuation of Rafah before it attempts to eliminate the four Hamas battalions based there. Hamas warned that an Israeli incursion would “torpedo” the current hostage negotiations taking place with third parties.

Elsewhere in Gaza, Hamas said that two hostages have been killed and eight wounded during Israeli raids. The IDF reported that it had discovered a Hamas tunnel “hundreds of metres long” running underneath the UNRWA HQ in Gaza City, confirming its suspicions that the aid organisation had been compromised by Hamas.
