Lewis Hamilton to join Ferrari for 2025 season

By Chris Dinsdale

February 1, 2024 - In a shock departure, seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton will leave Mercedes at the end of the 2024 season to join Ferrari.

The move is set to explode the F1 driver market -- Hamilton replaces Carlos Sainz at Ferrari, teaming up with Charles Leclerc.

Hamilton will now emulate F1 great and seven-time champion Michael Schumacher in racing for Ferrari. The Italian team last won driver’s title in 2007, with Kimi Raikkonen.

Hamilton made his debut for McLaren in 2007, aged 22, finishing third in Melbourne, Australia, and sealing his first F1 title one year later to become the youngest ever World Champion -- a record eclipsed by Vettel in 2010.

He reclaimed the championship in 2014 and 2015, and secured four more world titles in successive years from 2017-20.
