Israel-Hamas war situation report day 115

By Phil Bainbridge

January 29, 2024 - The IDF has warned that the lack of a “day after” plan by the political establishment for a civilian administration in Gaza is allowing Hamas to re-establish control where the army has withdrawn.

The IDF has advised civilians along the Gaza City coastline to flee southwards as fighting returns to the area after being largely taken over by Israeli forces, and is sure to postpone any plans to allow civilians to return.

Up to a dozen donor countries suspended funding for UNRWA, the Un body responsible for Palestinian refugees, after 12 staff were found to have been involved in the deadly October 7 attacks, and included members of Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

Far-right and Likud ministers in Benjamin Netanyahu’s government have called for the resettlement of Gaza by Israelis, and the “voluntary resettlement” of Palestinians at a conference on Gaza. Israeli critics slammed the conference as unnecessarily divisive and increasing the lack of trust in the government when they should be trying to build a national consensus.

Three U.S. servicemen were killed in a drone attack by an Iranian-backed militia, the Islamic Resistnce in Iraq, on the Tower 22 military outpost near the Syrian border. Iran has denied responsibility and says that it does not give orders o the “Resistance”.
