Israel-Hamas war situation report day 105

By Phil Bainbridge

January 19, 2024 - Fighting between Israel and Hamas has come within metres of Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, threatening the continued operation of the biggest still working in the Gaza Strip.

The IDF now estimates that Hamas tunnel network under Khan Younis alone stretches to about 100 miles long, with a tota of 350-450 miles throughout the Gaza Strip, typically beneath schools, hospitals and mosques, and including around 5,700 tunnel shaft entrances.

A communications blackout affecting all the Gaza telecoms providers entered its sixth day, hindering rescue and relief efforts in the region.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected a U.S. push for Palestinian statehood after the war. A spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has said there can be no “no security
and stability” without independence.

Evidence seen by The Guardian points to the systematic use of rape and sexual violence in the deadly October 7 attacks by Hamas on Israel.
