Rescuers say they have dug halfway to trapped tunnel workers

By Ninian Carter

November 21, 2023 - Rescuers attempting to reach 41 construction workers trapped in a highway tunnel in the Indian Himalayas have succeeded in delivering warm food and medical supplies.

A video camera has been used to record footage of 41 workers trapped in an under-construction tunnel in India for the first time since a cave-in occurred on November 12.

A new 15cm wide pipe has been drilled into the 60 metre deep mound of rubble blocking the tunnel, allowing rescuers to send the workers their first hot meal in days.

Officials say the new pipe will also help supply the workers with more oxygen, food and other essentials like medicine and mobile phones.
